Szampan (z franc. champagne, od vin de Champagne) - szczególny rodzaj wina musującego (potocznie - każde wino musujące), powszechnie kojarzony ze świętowaniem i luksusem. Nazwę swą zawdzięcza Szampanii, regionowi w północno-wschodniej Francji, głównemu miejscu jego produkcji.
Szampan jest produkowany bez sztucznego nasycania napoju dwutlenkiem węgla. Dwutlenek węgla tworzy się w nim na skutek naturalnego procesu dojrzewania wina w butelkach. Do butelek nalewa się młode, nie do końca przefermentowane wino, a następnie przechowuje się lekko pochylone w stronę korka butelki w piwnicach, w stałej temperaturze 3-5 °C.
W odróżnieniu od szampana, którego nazwa została zastrzeżona w 1911 r., inne francuskie wina musujące produkowane metodą szampańską nazywane są "mousseux". Z kolei w Szampanii produkuje się również wina o słabej mocy, które noszą inne nazwy: czerwone (Bouzy), białe (Coteaux champenois) lub różowe (rosé des Riceys). Jednak w tej historycznej prowincji produkuje się głównie wina białe musujące ze szczepów winogron chardonnay, pinot noir i pinot meunier, które nazywane są po prostu "szampanem", bez podawania szczegółów. Wina te uchodzą za doskonałe i dlatego są stosunkowo drogie.
