Wermut - wino aromatyzowane dodatkami ziołowymi i korzennymi[1] (najczęściej piołunem, a także szałwią, kolendrą, goździkami, gałką muszkatołową i in.). Zawartość alkoholu waha się w granicach 12-20% obj.[1] (może być wzmacniane alkoholem). Bywa dosładzane cukrem lub karmelem. Nazwa trunku pochodzi od niemieckiego słowa Wermut oznaczającego piołun.
Początkowo był to napój leczniczy. Za wynalazcę wermutu uchodzi kupiec z Turynu Antonio Benedetto Carpano. Wino było wówczas zaprawiane piołunem. Dzisiejsza nazwa powstała dopiero w XIX w. Napój stał się popularny, pity nie tylko dla zdrowia, ale i dla przyjemności.
