Zazwyczaj jest mieszany z innymi napojami, by złagodzić cierpki i gorzki smak. Jest jednym z najbardziej popularnych napojów alkoholowych używanych do drinków. Uznawany za alkohol dający się mieszać ze wszystkim, najczęściej z tonikiem, ew. sokiem (napojem) cytrynowym lub pomarańczowym (tzw. Gin Collins). Natomiast gin wymieszany z wermutem daje w efekcie martini.
Triple sec - grupa słodkich likierów pomarańczowych zawierających 40% alkoholu. Likier sporządzany jest z nalewu na świeże i suszone skórki różnych odmian pomarańczy, łącznie z odmianą Curacao. Triple sec narodził się we Francji w XIX wieku. Nazwa w dosłownym tłumaczeniu to ?potrójnie wytrawny?. Nie oznacza to jednak, że przeciętny Triple Sec jest 3 razy bardziej wytrawny niż Orange Curaçao. Fraza ?triple? oznacza w tym wypadku, że alkohol bazowy, na podstawie którego stworzony jest likier, był destylowany 3 razy. Spór o pierwszeństwo produkcji toczą marki Combier i Cointreau.
