Wynaleziony został przez Jaspera Newtona ?Jacka? Daniela w destylarni w małej miejscowości Lynchburg w stanie Tennessee w USA. Firma zarejestrowana przez niego jest pierwszą i najstarszą oficjalnie zarejestrowaną destylarnią w Stanach Zjednoczonych.
W Polsce dostępne są cztery rodzaje tej whiskey: Jack Daniel's Old No. 7, Gentleman Jack Daniel's, Jack Daniel's Single Barrel, Jack Daniel's Tennessee Honey oraz likier Jack Daniel's Winter Punch 0,7 l 15%. Występują również wersje niedostępne w Polsce, jest to między innymi Jack Daniel's Green Label, który jest pozycjonowany niżej niż No. 7.
